Annual Fund FAQ

Annual Fund – Frequently Asked Questions

What is the We Are SR! Annual Fund?

The WeAreSR! Annual Fund supports academics, arts and athletics for all students at San Rafael High School. Through the Annual Fund, we are able to cover important program needs that are not met by district, state or federal funding. We encourage every family to contribute, knowing that every cent raised goes toward improving the high school experience for every student.

What is the objective of the Annual Fund?

In 2017-2018, our primary objective is to increase the number of families who donate. Last year, about 30% of families participated by giving to the Annual Fund -- almost triple the previous year! But we think we can do even better and you can help us get to 100% by knowing that we gladly accept gifts of any size. We are asking each family to contribute $600 per student to fill the gap in funding, but know that we welcome donations at any level.

What programs does the Annual Fund support?

Annual Fund contributions are distributed across WeAreSR! (the school’s Parent Teacher Organization) and the Athletics, Music and Art Booster groups.

As the volunteer-run PTO for San Rafael High, WeAreSR! strives to enhance our students’ high school experience by providing academic, student and community program support. Examples of how the money gets spent:

  • Chromebook laptops for the classroom
  • STEM program enhancements, including Vernier Dynamics Systems, laser printers and HoverCam document cameras
  • Student Health Services Counseling
  • Agendas for every student at SR
  • "Every 15 Minutes" - a National Drinking and Driving Student Program
  • Teacher gift cards for classroom supplies
  • SAT prep classes
  • Dawg Pride community work days
  • Link Crew Program
  • And more

Athletic Boosters

The Athletic Boosters help support the many sports program needs not met by current district funding. It takes a significant amount of financial support to properly run an athletics program, and the Boosters fill a crucial need by bridging a large gap in funding. Some specific expenditures:

  • Athletic trainer services
  • Team roster boards
  • Ice machine
  • Bus service to playoff games
  • Weight room equipment
  • Baseball hitting screen
  • High jump pit
  • Wrestling mats
  • Tennis windscreens
  • Mountain bike trailer
  • Softball scoreboard
  • And more

Music Boosters

The Music Boosters fund critical “extras” that help maintain the excellence of the SRHS Music Program, including specific expenditures as listed below:

  • Sheet music
  • New instruments and maintenance – new Vibes in 2015
  • Transportation and entrance fees to festivals and field trips
  • Music lesson scholarships
  • Graduating senior scholarship awards
  • Band apparel
  • Coaching and accompaniment
  • And more

Drama Boosters

The Drama Boosters’ goal is to enhance the experience of students in the theatre program. Examples of how the money gets spent:

  • Fall and Spring production subsidies
  • Printed programs
  • New theatre sound system (slated for 2016)
  • Field trips
  • Graduating senior scholarship awards
  • And more

Art Boosters

Funds directed to the Art Boosters are used to provide much needed supplies and new equipment to all art classes and uses Annual Fund monies as follows:

  • Primary expenditures are for supplies: The Boosters support ALL art electives to keep classrooms equipped (clay, photography materials, paints, paper, etc)
  • Fees for art show submissions for the students
  • And More

Can I donate directly to a Booster Group?

We encourage families to give only through the Annual Fund. This is an attempt to simplify the giving process. WeAreSR! exists to provide all Booster groups with financial support for their programs -- as in past years, your student will continue to receive the benefits from the money raised through Annual Fund, whether it be for academics, the arts (music, theatre and art) or athletics.

Are contributions to my student’s class part of the Annual Fund drive?

Class specific fundraising efforts are separate and go toward events and programs for that class only. The money raised by the classes (students and parents) is primarily used for Prom and Safe and Sober Grad Night expenses. The WeAreSR! Annual Fund benefits all students at SRHS.

How can I make a donation?
